As well as being the poster boy for a new generation of thinkers, undisturbed by the Second World War and determined to not fall into the same potholes, Hendrix should rightly be revered as a maestro of his instrument too.
Powerful and potent, the solo on this track is a reminder of the talent Hendrix possessed from the beginning to the end of his time with The Experience.
Not so much a solo as an explosion of intoxicating force, the kind of genius Hendrix imbues this song with is a testament to his immense power.
He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. The next one's gonna be different.
We're working on an LP which will mainly be our stuff. I told him to keep working on that, saying, 'That's the next single! I listened to it and we went, 'OK, let's do it. After the basic track was finished, Chandler explained that he and Hendrix developed the song:.
With 'Purple Haze', Hendrix and I were striving for a sound and just kept going back in [to the studio], two hours at a time, trying to achieve it.
It wasn't like we were there for days on end. We recorded it, and then Hendrix and I would be sitting at home saying, 'Let's try that.
That's how it was in those days. However long it took to record one specific idea, that's how long we would book. We kept going in and out.
Redding and Mitchell were not included in the process because Chandler felt that it was more efficient for him and Hendrix to do it alone.

Chandler asked Redding if he wanted to play bass guitar in Hendrixs band; Redding agreed. Chandler began looking for a drummer and soon after contacted Mitch Mitchell through a mutual friend.
Mitchell, who had recently been fired from Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, participated in a rehearsal with Redding and Hendrix where they found common ground in their shared interest in rhythm and blues.
When Chandler phoned Mitchell later that day to offer him the position, he readily accepted. Chandler also convinced Hendrix to change the spelling of his first name from Jimmy to the more exotic Jimi.
Clapton later said: "He asked if he could play a couple of numbers. I said, Of course, but I had a funny feeling about him. In , Clapton described the performance: "He played just about every style you could think of, and not in a flashy way.

When Redding returned to New York in anticipation of rehearsals with a re-formed Experience, he was told that he had been replaced with Cox.
During an interview with Rolling Stone s Keith Altham, Hendrix defended the decision: "Its nothing personal against Noel, but we finished what we were doing with the Experience and Billys style of playing suits the new group better.

With round windows, an ambient lighting machine, and a psychedelic mural, Storyk wanted the studio to have a relaxing environment that would encourage Hendrixs creativity.
The studio officially opened for business on August 25, and a grand opening party was held the following day.
